Lightweight Bitwarden server API implementation written in Rust.

Who it suits

 • Self-hosters on modest hardware: Vaultwarden says it's “perfect for self-hosted deployment where running the official resource-heavy service might not be ideal.” It works with the official Bitwarden apps.

Switching from 1Password

Your data: 1Password's desktop app exports your items to a file; Bitwarden clients, which Vaultwarden works with, import it.

 1. In the 1Password desktop app, open the vault and select the items (Ctrl/Cmd + A for all). 1Password 8 can export several vaults at once.
 2. On Windows choose File → Export (or right-click → Export); on macOS choose File → Export → All Items…
 3. Choose a location and file format. For a .csv on macOS, also select All Fields and tick Include Column Labels.
 4. Sign in to your Vaultwarden server with a Bitwarden client (for example the web vault), go to Tools → Import, choose My vault or an organisation, and import the file.

Watch out for:

 • Data is encrypted locally before it's sent to the server.
 • Some item types can't be imported: upload file attachments individually and re-create Sends.

Switching from LastPass

Your data: LastPass exports a .csv file, which Bitwarden clients (and so Vaultwarden) import.

 1. In the LastPass web vault, open Advanced Options and choose Export under Manage your Vault.
 2. Confirm the export from the email LastPass sends, then choose Export again.
 3. Your data downloads as a .csv, or is shown on screen; if it's on screen, paste it into a new export.csv file.
 4. In a Bitwarden client signed in to your Vaultwarden server, go to Tools → Import and import the .csv.

Watch out for:

 • Some users report special characters (&, <, >) turning into HTML codes such as & in the on-screen export; find and replace them before importing.
 • Bitwarden's browser extensions and desktop apps also offer a Direct import option from LastPass.

awesome-selfhosted lists Docker as a way to deploy it.
